Holidays are a time to count our blessings and spread joy to those less fortunate. If you’re looking for a way to give back to our community this holiday season, you’re in luck. Check out these four Conshohocken-area organizations that could use your help!
1. Ardmore Food Pantry (St. Mary’s Episcopal Church)
The Ardmore Food Pantry, run by St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, provides food and hygiene items to those in need. This food pantry is open to everyone regardless of ethnicity or religion and no one in the Lower Merion area is ever turned away.
Beyond providing needed items, these volunteers make it their mission is to do so in a manner that encourages respect, understanding, and hospitality.
This organization is 100 percent funded by in-kind and financial donations. There are a number of ways you can help, including donating non-perishable food and hygiene items, holding a food drive, or making a financial donation. If you have time to give, consider helping out with collecting food items, staffing the food pantry, or organizing events.
2. Narbeth Community Food Bank
The Narbeth Community Food Bank serves Narberth Borough and Lower Merion Township and is an equal opportunity provider. This foodbank is run by a core group of volunteers and is always looking for additional help. You can also donate non-perishable food items at their location or at the Narberth Community Library (80 Windsor Avenue) during regular business hours.
3. North Light Community Center
The North Light Community Center provides a wide variety of services, including programs for children, teenagers, and families.
They also provide emergency services to those in need. The Friends in Supply Help (FISH) program gives food-instable households access to both fresh and non-perishable food items. Those who have difficulty paying their gas and utility bills can benefit from the Community Utility and Fuel Fund (CUFF). The North Light Community Center also provides holiday assistance, delivering gifts and meals to local families in need.
You can support this organization by making donations to the food cupboard or holding a food drive. You may also donate in other ways, including making a financial donation, making in-kind gifts, or becoming a volunteer.
4. Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network
The Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network (PIHN) provides emergency assistance to local families in need and offers a variety of services to help them move from homelessness to stability. This includes an emergency shelter, supportive services, youth services, and transitional housing.
There are a number of ways to get involved and support their mission. This includes cooking meals, hosting dinners, staying at the shelter as an overnight host, or volunteering to food shop. You can also drive families to the laundromat, become a mentor, or help with fundraising. But that’s not all!
